Welcome!
The Greene County Economic Development Group, Inc. started in November of 2005 as the result of a Health Mapping activity
with the Illinois Institute of Rural Affairs. Through the efforts of local residents and the Illinois Coalition for Community Services
the group revived the previous economic development committee and are working to become a public-private organization funded through
membership fees and donations.
Greene County Economic Development Group Action Plan
Goals: Greene County is known as an area able to promote growth while maintaining its small town atmosphere (managed growth).
Strategies:
- Investigate the possibility of value-added agriculture projects that include aquaculture, organic farming and specialty crops.
- Conduct a business retention and expansion survey and plan to promote local entrepreneurship.
- Create a countywide economic development group.
- Encourage zoning and building codes countywide.
- Promote and coordinate tourism (retirement villages, bed and breakfast), accent what is unique.
This was our first model action plan established in November 2005. As we evolved into a full-fledged organization we adopted a
mission statement: To promote new business, facilitate the needs of existing business and encourage entrepreneurial endeavors
in Greene County.
